A WORD (OR TWO) ABOUT ©COPYRIGHT

The nature of this site demands that I ask relative strangers to send me their personally-obtained photographs, so I'd like to address for a moment the matter of copyright. Simply put, I am fanatic about copyright. I have chased down third parties and even friends who have reproduced my images without acknowledgement and/or prior consent. Photos submitted to this site will be treated with no less respect (perhaps more). An image submitted to this site is understood to be submitted for reproduction on The Canopy Report, and on no other site or forum unless explicitly stated; if for whatever reason you don't care for the photo to be included in The Canopy Report I will honor your request. I ask that an active e-mail address be included with each and every submission, as it is possible that various publications should wish to reproduce your photograph. In this case the publisher in question will be asked to contact the photographer directly, and I will offer no opinion as to whether the copyright holder should acquiesce to the request. The most likely publication to contact you will be North American Birds, the documentary wing of the American Birding Association, and the magazine and the organization are both not-for-profit. Regardless, they will be required to obtain your express permission for any reproduction. I would also suggest that you edit your name and copyright onto any image you send to The Canopy Report; if you do not do so, I will do it for you.
