Yellow-crowned Parrot
Amazona ochrocephala

Yellow-crowned is an uncommon to rare psittacid of the savannas and light woodlands of the Pacific slope. It is seen fairly regularly on field trips to the El Chirú area of southern Coclé. As is the case with a number of psittacids of open habitats, Yellow-crowned Parrot seems to be in a population decline, probably due to the combination of the cage trade and habitat loss (lowland areas are quite easily and regularly converted to agriculture). Birders' sight reports can provide useful data in documenting the status of this handsome bird.
