Yellow-breasted Crake
Porzana flaviventer

This rare and secretive rail is reported even less often than the supposedly less common Gray-breasted Crake; in fact, the only record in recent years of which I am aware is my own. In the company of Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Fagan et.al. I found an adult with 2-4 downy black young in tow at the Ammo Dump Ponds in August of 2003. At the time I had no idea how significant the sighting was, although I did manage to capture some distant video of the birds in question. I have neither seen nor heard of sightings of Yellow-breasted Crake since this time.
