This fascinating emberezid has likely been affected by the widespread alteration of grassland habitats throughout
Panama, and seems to never have been abundant even under the best of circumstances. Guides at the Canopy Lodge
have found this species to be a breeder at La Estancia, Coclé, near El Valle, and Tino Sanchez and I found a territorial
male singing at a new location on the rugged road above the village of Cabuya in May of 2006. Isolated pockets may exist elsewhere in the
region, and the documentary efforts of birders can prove quite helpful in contributing to the ornithological understanding of this little-known species.
