| The discovery (by Danilo Rodriguez and Michael Harvey) of Violet Sabrewings at Altos del Maria was totally unexpected, as previous records indicated the range of this huge hummingbird as extending east only as far as western Veraguas Province. Reports since this initial sighting in the summer of 2005 have been sporadic, so there is not likely to be a large population involved, but the possibility of breeding sabrewings in the region is still in question. |
