Stripe-headed Brush-Finch (referred to as Black-headed Brush-Finch in Birds of Panama) is one of the rarest
species in central Panama, definitely on the decline here and probably elsewhere in Panama (for reasons as yet undetermined
other than the usual factors of habitat loss and such). It is seen very occasionally at Cerro Azul/Jefe, where even there a
sighting is cause for celebration. Given that Stripe-headed Brush-Finch's known range extends through western Panama I would normally consider
this a candidate for future discovery in appropriate habitat at Altos del Maria, but, in light of the overall decline of the species, such serendipity now
seems unlikely.
