Ruddy Woodcreeper is generally considered a species of the Panamanian foothills, especially
in western Panama, but it is occasionally found in lowlands throughout. There is a recent report by José
Perez from Semaphore Hill, a location from which this species is rare but not unheard-of. It may be overlooked given a superficial
similarity to the widespread Plain-brown Woodcreeper D. fuliginosa; Ruddy Woodcreeper is much more rufous overall, and lacks the striking facial
pattern of Plain-brown (not well-illustrated in Ridgely). I would not be surprised if Ruddy Woodcreeper is found someday in the foothills of Altos del Maria.
