This species was considered "hypothetical" at the time of the most recent revision
of The Birds of Panama (although the only sighting was by Ridgely himself), but there have been multiple, well-documented
reports from the Caribbean Canal area in recent years. I do not believe it has ever been reported on a field trip from the Tower or Lodge,
but should be looked for on the Pacific coast near Tocumen Marsh, or perhaps in southern Coclé around Rio Hato and environs. This is a
species found almost exclusively in salt waters.
