This is a real longshot given that there are only two records
of this bird from Panama, but both have occurred within the last 5 years.
Allen Chartier found the first at El Real in Darién Province in 2001,
and Jan Axel Cubilla found the second at Tocumen Marsh in June of 2006. Carlos
Bethancourt relocated the bird a week or so after, which means some lucky birders visiting the
Canopy Tower got to see this rare bird! Long-winged Harrier occupies a rather wide range
across much of northern South America, so perhaps its appearance in Panama
was just a matter of time.
