Green Ibis is generally considered rare and local in Panama, more likely to be found
on the Caribbean coast, although Carlos Bethancourt informs me he finds it somewhat regularly
at Tocumen Marsh. Some uncertainty might arise from the modest difficulty of distinguishing this
species from Glossy Ibis in the field. One might also note, when reading the species' accounts in
The Birds of Panama, that Ridgely considered Glossy Ibis to be a rare migrant, although at this time
it is known to be somewhat common, part of a population and range expansion to the south in this species.
Consider also that White-faced Ibis (from the north) and Bare-faced Ibis (from the south) are quite possible as vagrants
in the region, and it seems safe to say that any dark ibis should be identified with care! Evidence of breeding
activity should also be noted carefully, as any report of breeding from either species would add to our scientific knwoledge
regarding the range of these birds.
