Green-and-rufous Kingfisher is an extremely rare find for birders visiting
central Panama, rare enough that I have failed to find a single report of the species
in multiple trip reports, CBCs, and other records from the region. In part this is due
to the species' skulking habits; Carlos Bethancourt informs me that the kingfisher lurks at stream edges,
and generally seems to spook at the first sign of human presence. This species may still be more overlooked than rare,
and should be looked for particularly on the many streams that cross Pipeline Road.
