Crimson-bellied Woodpecker
Campephilus haematogaster

Crimson-bellied Woodpecker is a striking and large woodpecker of the genus Campephilus that is seldom-reported from central Panama. It is seen very occasionally of Pipeline Road and at Cerro Azul/Jefe. It is almost certainly uncommon anywhere in Panama, but given that its known range spans the length of the country it should be looked out for anywhere. Knowledge of its vocalization would likely be of use in tracking down this rare bird; Xeno-canto offers at least one recording of Crimson-bellied Woodpecker available for free download.
