| This stunning heron is rather common (at least seasonally) around Tocumen Marsh, but is rare elsewhere in central Panama. Carlos Bethancourt and I found one on 9/19/04 on the grounds of the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, and it is reportedly somewhat sporadically from this general area. Evidence of breeding at any location should be carefully noted, as little is known about this species' breeding range within Panama. |
